How to Unlock Your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide greater functionality and comfort compared to traditional manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob is only working intermittently, the battery could be failing and you'll need to replace it in the near future.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following a few simple steps. First, find a clean work surface to perform the procedure. Lay out all the tools you'll need. Find the battery hatch and ensure it is set to "open." Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to make the hatch off. Next, carefully pry the battery from its socket by lifting up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Wear rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is securely seated within all clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it is loose and then slides off. Then, take off the cover to reveal the key blade inside. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's seat in the event that you've lost or damaged the key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs which can perform much more than just unlock or lock the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions, such as summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. The new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine using its key fob buttons. How exactly does it work?

First, locate a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all the necessary items for this project. Then lay the fob on the work surface, with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Then make use of a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to turn the battery hatch back to the open position. Avoid touching the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This can cause the fob to stop functioning properly.

Once the hatch is opened, slide the battery in its socket. Make sure the positive (+ side) is facing upwards. Once  replacement volvo keys  have been locked into place, replace the battery cover, and then reassemble the fob.

Pressing the unlock button a second time will disable the alarm and open the driver's door. By pressing it a second it will unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to roll down the windows during hot days or to let in fresh air before getting behind the wheel. And if you're looking for more, the key fob can also be used to turn on ERS, which will start the climate control system in your vehicle and warm or cool it to the preferred temperature settings when the vehicle is in a parking spot.

How to Replace the Battery

If your key fob no longer locks or unlocks your car, it could be time to replace the battery. The battery can be changed using a flathead screwdriver pry bar made of plastic, or other small tools. First look for the small hole where the backup / emergency ignition key made of metal be. Place the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently open the back of the fob for the key. Once the fob has been opened then locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Replace the battery and snap together the fob.

Note: Some older Volvo models use different types of batteries that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths one millimeter lower than a CR2032 and you'll have to be very careful when replacing your battery.
